25 Facts About Sharks

#22 – Movement in the Water

Do you know why sharks in those horror movies about them always detect the presence of humans in the oceans? That’s because these animals have something called lateral line system which allows them to detect even the smallest movements in the ocean. This system allows sharks to find their prey easily and navigate the ocean at night.

This special lateral line system consists of a cluster of fluid-filled canals under the shark’s skin. Those special fluid-filled canals vibrate when there’s some type of a presence in the ocean and signalizes shark to see what’s going on.
